Roland Jordahl was born in Lake Benton, MN. He is a graduate of Mankato State University with a BS Degree in Music Education, and a MS Degree in Media & Technology. He has studied at the Winona School of Professional Photography, and is a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography. Due to a medical disability, he took early retirement from 35 years in education, and 25 years of operating a photographic portrait studio.

Now, in retirement and when health permits, he pursues his favorite activity, that of photographing nature and wildlife. Trips to Europe, Alaska, Florida, and places in between have afforded photographic opportunities from mountains to swamps, and grizzly bears to shore birds. Photographing God’s marvelous creations is his witness to his time.

His work has been recognized and published in newspapers, magazines, MN State Park calendars and other wildlife publications. He has had many exhibits at a variety of locations to include the Lutheran Brotherhood building in Minneapolis, Senator Paul Wellstone’s office in St. Paul, libraries, and others. He has in the past taught photography classes, and is currently a Field Editor for the national Reiman publication of “Birds & Blooms”, and does some photography for other magazines.

“When photographing nature and wildlife, I work on their terms. I prefer the quiet and solitude of morning and evening hours, and bear witness to the fresh new rays of each day. I realize that I am the visitor when in the woodland, and I tread lightly so as to not disrupt the natural flow of nature. The lighting must be right, the composition explored, and the exposure made at the precise time to capture the beauty, excitement, and expression of each subject.”
